Fredrikstad is 1.5hrs drive/train from Oslo. Flights should be to Oslo Gardermoen, NOT Oslo Torp.  To get to Fredrikstad you could take a bus from Oslo Bussterminal or you can take a train from Oslo Sentralstasjon to Fredrikstad. Bus (Oslo Bussterminal to Fredrikstad Bussterminal) and train (Oslo Sentral Stasjon to Fredrikstad Stasjon) tickets can be purchased through Vy.no

Fredrikstad is a summer city and we highly recommend coming to Fredrikstad earlier in the day Friday and enjoying a meal and a drink by the riverside or walking through the city and taking a (free) ferry to the Old Town. On the evening of Friday the 4th of July 2025, we’d love to have as many of our friends and family meet each other before the wedding. We hope to find somewhere and grab a drink or a bite to eat. Let us know if you will be around.

We recommend finding accommodation in Fredrikstad for Friday the 4th of July to Sunday the 6th of July, and in Oslo for the days before the 4th of July if you are coming some time before.

Why not make a trip out of it?

Oslo is a great walking city. Take a day or two to enjoy the city. If you’d like to get a day pass on the metro line (ruter.no) here are some of our favourite places to visit in the city.

  • Oslo Opera House world famous opera house designed by Snøhetta. Great to just climb up and have a view of the fjord or grab an affordable show. Catching an opera or ballet in Oslo is really something for the people, its a low threshold evening out and can be enjoyed with not too much preparation or advance booking. Send us a message if you might want to catch a show and we can see if we can get a discount. Check upcoming shows at operaen.no

  • Vannkunsten/Munch Brygge new fjord village with many nice restaurants and bars. On a sunny day this is where you can find us. A quick jump in the water, some sun, a taco, a cocktail, and then a gelato from Paradis is our summer go-to afterwork destress.

  • Kok/Oslo Badstueforening the floating sauna’s on the fjord are something not to miss. Although best enjoyed in the colder months these can easily be enjoyed on a windy late evening or early morning in the summer months. Book 21-days in advance here.

  • Sognsvann the lake on the edge of the city and forests . Nayeem used to live in the student village here, great for those who want some nature. Great for a swim, picnic, or many many hikes around the area. But ask Runa about this because Nayeem doesn’t do nature.

  • Holmenkollen where you can find the famous Oslo Ski jump, designed by Julian De Smidt, and the Ski Museum, recently renovated by Snøhetta. Taking the T-Bane (metro) up here is a great way to see the city from high ground. Come up for a dinner at Frognersaetner and go for a hike (or take the metro back down like Nayeem).

  • Sørenga is the original swim spot on summer days. Oslowegians flock here for a quick swim after work. Plenty of restaurants and bars around this man-made peninsula.

  • Museums Oslo is fortunate to have some world-class art and architecture. Visit the newly opened Munch Museum for the Edvard Munch collection, or the Nasjonalmuseet (National Museum). Plan your trip right and you can visit the Turrell exhibit in Ekerberg Park as well. Renzo Piano’s Astrup Fearnley museum is also just a stones throw from the city centre at the tip of Tjuvholmen.
